Dear Prairie View families, We are excited to share with you KEEP – the Kansas Education Enrichment Program which provides students from income-qualifying households a $1,000 to spend on eligible goods and services that promote learning and facilitate academic enrichment opportunities. Families are invited to apply for these funds at www.keep.ks.gov. There is no cost to apply or participate in the program, and parents and guardians can enroll multiple students in the household. Current income guidelines can be found on the KEEP website. Families can spend the funds with Qualified Education Service Providers in the online KEEP Marketplace. Approved goods and services include: Camps with academic subjects Language classes Instrument and Vocal lessons, including instrument purchase or rental Tutoring Services Curriculum materials, school supplies, and technology Families that receive awards can manage their funds through the KEEP app, available in apps stores for both Android and IOS. The program is provided by the State of Kansas and funded by the American Rescue Plan Act. Funds are limited and will be awarded on a first come, first served basis. Dear Parker Parents, if your child is participating in our talent show, there is practice after school today May 15 until 4:30pm. If they are staying, they will need to be picked up promptly at 4:30pm and you will need to call the office to let Miss Carrie know they are staying. If they do not have permission to stay, they will be sent home using their regular mode of transport. This is only for students that have already signed up for the talent show previously and attended auditions or spoke with Mrs Wilcox. The talent show is on Friday, May 19th at 9am Thank you!

PVMS Families, 6th and 7th grade students are starting to look at scheduling for next year. Mrs. Prothe met with students yesterday and today to go over scheduling and they should be coming home with a sheet for parents/guardians to look at and sign. If you are a qualified elector of Prairie View USD 362 (at least 18 years of age, registered to vote, and reside in USD 362 boundary) you may seek to fulfill the vacant position. Multiple law enforcement agencies across Kansas, including the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, have received reports of a male with a gun in the restroom at their local high schools. Our SRO has been in contact with the Linn County Sheriff’s office And these threats have been determined to be a hoax. Out of an abundance of caution, searched Prairie View High School we are being diligent in our safety measures and determined our high school to be safe and secure. Our local law enforcement will continue to monitor the situation and our SRO will maintain a presence at the school today.

The USD 362 Board of Education is pleased to announce their choice for our next superintendent, Dr. Chris Johnson from Crane, Mo. Please read her introduction and join us in welcoming her to the district: I am so excited to have been selected to be the next superintendent of Prairie View USD 362. I have been in education for 29 years with 11 years of experience as a superintendent. My last 8 years have been at Crane R-III in Crane, MO, which is South of Springfield, MO about 30 minutes. My bachelor’s degree is in Elementary Education from NWMSU and my master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from CMU. I have a specialist and PhD from University of Missouri in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis. My husband and I have been married for almost 37 years. We have 2 sons that are grown and 1 grandson. We are rural farm people and love the country life! I can’t wait to meet the staff and community and get to know you. Go Buffalos!
