High School: Drama

Drama Club Prepares for Play

by Genell Arnold

March 26, 2009

The Prairie View High School Drama Club will be presenting the play, Angel in the Night, on Friday, April 17 at 7:00 p.m. in the Prairie View Performing Arts Center. The play is based on the true story of Marysia Pawlina Szul, who as a teenager in 1942 hid four Jews in her barn. Since it was without her family’s approval she alone cared for these fugitives for two years during the Nazi invasion of Poland. Although she was arrested, imprisoned and beaten by Nazi soldiers, Marysia refused to betray them. Today Marysia is honored both in Yad Vashem, Israel and the Avenue of the Righteous Park in Evanston, Illinois. Angel in the Night is an inspiring story of courage, compassion and heroism, reinforcing the concept that one individual can make a real difference and that love is stronger than hatred. Central to Marysia Pawlina’s story is this message: The hope for our world lies with individuals who, even in the face of life-threatening dangers, courageously choose to respond to those in need, in the spirit of goodness and altruism, with compassion, concern and care. Tickets for the play may be purchased at the door and are $4.00 for adults and $3.00 for students.
