Stampede and ASNE Partner to Bring Online News
by Michael Pickman
Many have noticed that the monthly editions of the Stampede are not as frequent. Is the news staff slacking off? Not in the least. They are just doing less print editions.
Obviously money is a concern, and printing papers is not entirely cheap. This year the Stampede is using my.hsj.org, a site sponsored by journalism editors of ASNE. It provides a free service where students can create an online paper that looks and is organized much like the news sites people check daily online.
We plan to still do five print editions using the money we have raised through advertisement. We have done two already (October and November) and we plan to publish print editions in February, March, and April. The print editions are given to every student in the district to take home to family and the remainder are available at home school events and the LaCygne Library.
In addition, we are putting every month's paper on line at my. hsj.org. The link for the Stampede is http://my.hsj.org/Schools/Newspaper/tabid/100/newspaperId/3226/view/frontpage/Default.aspx Please visit this towards the end of every month for up to date news. Every month we do not do a print edition, patrons can still go to the online edition. This still allows for widespread news and saves money.
Print editions can also be viewed in .pdf form on the Stampede's web site under the high school tab on the district web site.
