Godfrey Represents PVMS At State Bee
by Kevin Sladky
April 15, 2008
Every year the National Geographic Society sponsors a nationwide
Geography Bee and here at PVMS we give all 7th grade students and
any gifted students the chance to participate in the first round.
The finalist was Calli Godfrey!
The state bee took place on Friday, April 4th 2008 at the Dwight D.
Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum in Abilene, Kansas.
After checking in, the 100 students from all across Kansas were
split into five groups and assigned to various rooms in the
library. The competition would consist of eight rounds, with a
question for each student in that round. Calli started out on fire!
She correctly answered the first four questions. Just four more
questions! Calli missed three of the next four questions and
finished with 5 of 8 questions correct. After the competition Calli
was a little disappointed because she knew the answers to two of
the three questions that she had missed. Calli’s advice for future
contestants “I didn’t have to win to learn things. Before going I
had to study a lot. They don’t focus on a certain place, so I had
to study the whole world. The bee isn’t hard; in fact, it’s just a
fun experience.” Overall, Calli did an excellent job and is ready
to try again next year!
