Fontana Wins Governor's Award

FE Scores in Top 5% of All Kansas Schools

December 14, 2007

On December 7, the students and teachers of Fontana Elementary were presented with several awards relating to the Kansas State Assessments.  At a special assembly, students came forward to accept building level Standard of Excellence certificates for both reading and math as well as 4th and 5th grade level awards for reading and 4th and 5th grade level awards for math.  Several 5th grade students came forward to receive and unfurl two new Standard of Excellence banners.  The banners will hang in the gymnasium with several others received in previous years.

USD 362 superintendent Chris Kleidosty followed by asking teachers Mary Fulk, Brian Uphoff, Barb Ready, Rachel Brown, Casey Browning, and Kay DeMott to step forward.  Mr. Kleidosty congratulated the teachers again on the performance of their students and then presented them with the Kansas State Department of Education Governor's Achievement Award.  This prestigious award recognizes those schools whose students performed in the top 5% of all Kansas schools.  The award also recognizes Fontana students and teachers for the Standard of Excellence achievements and for meeting all AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) measures that the state uses to assess school performance.

The students and staff of Fontana Elementary are very proud of their rewards and intend to meet the same level of academic excellence on the 2008 assessments.
